New immunotherapeutic approaches for cancer treatment
Pathol Res Pract. 2023 Jun 19;248:154632. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2023.154632. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeoplasms are a worldwide recognized non-contagious disease which has the most mortality rate after cardiovascular diseases. For decades, there has been a vast amount of study on treatment methods of cancer which has led to conventional therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery and so on. Clinicians and researchers believed that there is an urgent need, considering the high rate of incidence and prevalence, for an alternative treatment option which is more efficacious and has less adverse effects than th...

Advances in bio-immunotherapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer
J Cancer Res Clin Oncol. 2023 Jul 18. doi: 10.1007/s00432-023-05152-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProstate cancer is one of the significant diseases that threaten the survival of men worldwide, with the progression of androgen deprivation therapy, become much rely on it, finally, developed into castration-resistant prostate cancer (ADT). In western countries, ranks second in incidence, and in China, with increasing lifespan, the incidence of prostate cancer is rising steadily. Although chemotherapy agents, such as taxane, have achieved some efficacy, treatment failure still occur. As sensitivity of hormone levels change...

Myeloid MyD88 restricts CD8 < sup > + < /sup > T cell response to radiation therapy in pancreatic cancer
Sci Rep. 2023 May 27;13(1):8634. doi: 10.1038/s41598-023-35834-w.ABSTRACTRadiation therapy induces immunogenic cell death in cancer cells, whereby released endogenous adjuvants are sensed by immune cells to direct adaptive immune responses. TLRs expressed on several immune subtypes recognize innate adjuvants to direct downstream inflammatory responses in part via the adapter protein MyD88. We generated Myd88 conditional knockout mice to interrogate its contribution to the immune response to radiation therapy in distinct immune populations in pancreatic cancer. Surprisingly, Myd88 deletion in Itgax (CD11c)-expressing dendri...

Current progress in immunotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Apr 15;13(4):1140-1147. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTNasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of the highly prevalent malignant tumors and the most common type of ear, nose, and throat cancer. The exact cause of various cancer is still unclear; however, a diversity of risk factors for the development of nasopharyngeal cancer have been reported, including genetic changes, viral infection, and environmental factors, among which, Epstein-Barr-Virus plays an important role in the oncogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is highly malignant and prone to metastasis, while most of them are modera...

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B as DNA vaccine against breast cancer in a murine model
This study aimed to evaluate the antitumor potency of the SEB DNA vaccine as a new antitumor candidate against breast tumors in vivo. To determine the effect of the SEB construct on inhibiting tumor cell growth in vivo, the synthetic SEB gene, subsequent codon optimization, and embedding the cleavage sites were sub-cloned to an expression vector. Then, SEB construct, SEB, and PBS were injected into the mice. After being vaccinated, 4T1 cancer cells were injected subcutaneously into the right flank of mice. Then, the cytokine levels of IL-4 and IFN-γ were estimated by the ELISA method to evaluate the antitumor activity. Th...

COVID-19 Contingency Planning Among Radiologic Science Programs
CONCLUSION: Although educators in this sample felt moderately prepared to handle future viral outbreaks and extremely comfortable using technology in the virtual classroom, additional research is needed to develop viable contingency plans and explore pedagogical approaches to content delivery beyond the traditional, in-person structure.PMID:36973034
